- Patrick O'Brien, owner of a boarding house at the corner of Pike Street and Fourth Street, complained to the Council about a saloon that was disturbing his business, which was renting room in this building. He claimed a man named Hull "permits and encourages drunkenness said premises and lewd women to frequent his said saloon and to become intoxicated and they shout...laugh and otherwise disturb myself and family and the roomers..." He asked that the saloon be removed as "such a house as Mr. Holden runs is a disgrace to any respetable community."
