Description
Surveys, maps, and photographs compiled to create a visual inventory of urban design, historical, and architectural elements that give Seattle "its unique character and identity." The inventory was administered by the Historic Seattle Preservation and Development Authority with funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the City of Seattle. The project was a bicentennial endeavor. Volunteers were used to survey selected neighborhoods and inventory forms were reviewed by consultants Folke Nyberg and Victor Steinbrueck. Project publications included only a small portion of the images and inventory information gathered by the project staff.

This collection is in process, currently images for West Seattle, Ballard, the International District, and the Central Area are available online. Folders contain neighborhood maps of the survey locations as well as the survey inventory sheets which detail the architectural features of the homes being reviewed. More than 1,600 images are available online. Select the link below to view the images.
