Sixty seven copy prints acquired from the Frederick Law Olmsted National Historic Site via Friends of Seattle's Olmsted Parks and the Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation in celebration of the 1984 Seattle Park Centennial. nnThe Olmsted Brothers' park planning has left an indelible mark on Seattle and its legacy of providing green spaces for its citizens. This collection provides a visual exploration of early 20th Century Olmsted parks planning and shows Seattle's park system in its infancy. Captured are images of land clearing in the University area, Washington Park Arboretum, and Beacon Hill; bike paths, boulevards, concourses, and parkways within and between parks; Lake Washington from various vantages; Fort Lawton and Magnolia Bluff; Madrona and Leschi Parks; and Volunteer Park's concourse, concert grounds, and garden in development. Early images of buildings such as the Washington Hotel on Denny Hill and the Firlock Club as well as the Olympic Hotel and Totem Pole in Pioneer Square are also included.
