- Established June 1, 1971 to replace the Municipal Art Commission after tax restructuring. Became a formal City Department in 1976. Department name changed to Mayor's Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs in 2002.
Not to be confused with [Seattle Arts Commission (2002-)], a 16-member citizens advisory board that serves alongside the Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs.
