Description from program:
We have to find new ways to do more and be more to our young people. They are not Generation "X", signifying the unknown, they are ours - all of them. As such, they are also our responsibility. Many of the young men and women among us rightfully feel that they have the capacity to to shape their futures. They must never be made to feel that they are powerless to effect meaningful change in their lives or in their society.
For those of us who have fewer days to live than the number of days we have already lived, our young people are the renewal of life and the embodiment of our struggle.
Ignorance remains the enemy of self reliance.
We must therefore empower our young people with both education and values, as they are the ones who will ultimately empower us.
We must renew our emphasis on the things that work: fighting for our dignity; defining ourselves; rebuilding our communities; and taking personal ownership of our lives, our values and our families. We must ultimately find a way to rise beyond ourselves, beyond our conditions, and find the courage to make the painful sacrifices so desperately needed.
Such selflessness will not only nourish our human spirit, but also will elevate our communities and empower our nation.
Let us therefore commit ourselves from this day forward to vote in greater numbers, speak in louder voices, write with sharper pens, and act with firmer convictions.
