Biography

Bill Alves joined Central Staff in August 1998. He received a M.A. in Economic Geography from the University of Washington. Previously he was the Water Planning Supervisor for Seattle Public Utilities for four years. From 1989 to 1994, he was an economist with the Seattle Water Department. Prior to that worked on Seattle’s first recycling plan, on City Light rates, and on other financial issues. Before joining the City, Bill was the Assistant Professor of Land Use and Regional Economics at the University of Alaska and a nuclear engineer with General Electric. He covered utilities, transportation, parks and finance-related issues.
