The Office of Labor Standards (OLS) was established in 2015 by Ordinance 124643. The office's mission is to protect workers' wages, working conditions, and safety and health, and to end barriers to workplace equity for women, communities of color, immigrants and refugees, and other vulnerable workers. It conducted investigations to enforce labor standards ordinances, provided outreach and education to workers and businesses, assisted businesses with compliance, collected and analyzed data, and provided resources and referrals. The office enforced ordinances including those related to minimum wage, paid sick time, criminal history, and secure scheduling.
