Scope and Contents Note
Photographs from Pedersen's office during his term on Seattle City Council. A portion of the collection pertains to the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests (including at his house) and the Jumpstart payroll expense tax. Other topics include homelessness and encampments, parks, transportation, community services and projects, openings and groundbreakings in the District 4 neighborhoods.

Historical Note
Alex Pedersen was elected in 2019 to represent District 4 in northeast Seattle. Born and raised in Baltimore, Pedersen earned a BA in history from James Madison University and a master’s in government administration from the University of Pennsylvania. He served as a Presidential Management Fellow during the Clinton Administration, working on homelessness and community development programs at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Pedersen worked as a housing finance analyst and as a legislative aide to Councilmember Tim Burgess before serving his own term on council, where he chaired the Transportation and Utilities Committee. He chose not to run for reelection in 2023.
