- Description
- Raw footage of an interview with fine art conservator Chiara Carcano, who restored the lost Works Progress Administration (WPA) mural at West Seattle High School (WSHS).
The mural was painted in 1937 by Jacob Elshin and depicts the landing of the Denny Party at Alki Point on November 13, 1851. Elshin created several murals for the school's hallway entrance to the auditorium depicting scenes of early Seattle as part of a 1937 WPA-sponsored Federal Art Project. The lost mural was rediscovered in 2000 by an art teacher who informed Seattle Public Schools Archivist Eleanor Toews (who had been searching for the missing mural).
