Description
A television segment on the lost Works Progress Administration (WPA) mural at West Seattle High School (WSHS). The mural was painted in 1937 by Jacob Elshin and depicts the landing of the Denny Party at Alki Point on November 13, 1851. Elshin created several murals for the school's hallway entrance to the auditorium depicting scenes of early Seattle as part of a 1937 WPA-sponsored Federal Art Project. The lost mural was rediscovered in 2000 by Seattle Public Schools Archivist Eleanor Toews and restored by fine art conservator Chiara Carcano. Includes interviews with Eleanor Toews, Chiara Carcano and Roger van Oosten (WPA historian).

Produced as a collaboration by the City of Seattle and Seattle Public Schools. Includes archival film and photos from National Archives and Records Administration, University of Washington Libraries, Special Collections and the Smithsonian Insititute WPA Collection, Archive of American Art.
