Historic Seattle is a public corporation created for the preservation and enhancement of Seattle’s historic heritage. The City is authorized by state law to create public corporations to improve governmental efficiency and services and general living conditions in functional areas usually restricted by legal or organizational structure of the City. Historic Seattle was chartered in November 1973 to acquire, restore, improve, maintain, and dispose of historically significant properties; to raise funds for these purposes; and to provide advisory and consultative services regarding historic preservation.
