Margaret Pageler was elected to City Council for the term beginning January 1992, to fill the seat vacated by the retired Paul Kraabel. She chaired the Public Safety Committee (1992-1995) during her first term, and the Utilities and Environmental Management Committee (1996-1999) during her second term. She became City Council President in 2000 and chaired two committees: the Water Resources, Solid Waste and Public Health Committee; and the Legislative Department and Intergovernmental Affairs Committee. Pageler was born and raised in China and Taiwan, the daughter of missionaries. She received a law degree from the University of Chicago and practiced utility law for the Seattle law firm, Stoel Rives. Pageler was a Vision Seattle candidate for City Council in three elections prior to winning her first race.
