Scope and Contents Note

Records from Cathy Moore's office from her time serving on Seattle City Council. Also includes electronic subject files from Chief of Staff Hannah Thoreson and Legislative Aides Newell Aldrich, Melisa Beckerman, and Henry Pollet. Public safety issues are well represented, including SOAP/SODA legislation, sex trafficking, police accountability, crowd management, and criminal legal system reform. Other topics include homelessless, rental regulations, small business support, trees, zoning, and the city's comprehensive plan update. Also covered are issues relating to specific District 5 neighborhoods including Lake City, Northgate, Maple Leaf, and Aurora Avenue.

Historical Note

Cathy Moore represented District 5 from 2024-2025. She has a BA from Binghamton University and earned a JD from Albany Law School. After graduating, Moore became a public defender in Brooklyn before returning to Seattle where over the next few years she served as Chair of the Seattle Human Rights Commission and interim City Clerk. From 2017-2022, Cathy was a King County Superior Court Judge, ruling in criminal, family law, and civil commitment trials. During her time as Councilmember, she was Chair of Housing and Human Services Committee.
