Several insurance agents and their companies petitioned the Mayor and the Fire Commissioners to remove all partisan politics from the Fire Department. They believed that to best serve the City the firefighters should be loyal only to the Fire Department and to the protection of the City. They asked that these beliefs be incorporated into the City Charter.
