Scope and Contents Note

Records from Pedersen's office during his term on Seattle City Council. A significant portion of the records pertains to the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests (including one at his house) and the accompanying debates about police funding and accountability. Other topics include homelessness and encampments, parks, transportation issues, and the University District and other District 4 neighborhoods.

Biographical Note

Alex Pedersen was elected in 2019 to represent District 4 in northeast Seattle. Born and raised in Baltimore, Pedersen earned a BA in history from James Madison University and a master’s in government administration from the University of Pennsylvania. He served as a Presidential Management Fellow during the Clinton Administration, working on homelessness and community development programs at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Pedersen worked as a housing finance analyst and as a legislative aide to Councilmember Tim Burgess before serving his own term on council, where he chaired the Transportation and Utilities Committee. He chose not to run for reelection in 2023.

Processing Note

CloneSpy was used to filter and log duplicate files. Duplicate files and non-record material were deleted. CU Spider Scan and DtSearch were used to screen for personal and sensitive information. DROID was used to identify file formats, extract metadata, and facilitate processing decisions. Files were then logged and transferred using Robocopy to preservation storage.
