Public Safety Civil Service Commission Legal Opinions
Opinions issued by the City Attorney relating to the Civil Service Department and its function. Includes an index to opinions and a list of court cases involving the Department. These records predate the reorganization of the personnel function in the City. Arranged chronologically.
Office of the Treasurer Legal Opinions
Opinions and advice from the Law Department relating to financial issues and other issues of interest especially to the Comptroller and Treasurer's offices. There is a gap in the records for the years 1934 through 1970. The years 1971-1985 are arranged alphabetically by subject. The years 1905 to 1933 are arranged chronologically.
Legal Opinions Regarding Public Utilities
Opinions issued by the City Attorney at the request of various City officials regarding public utility issues. Included are Seattle's water system, refuse disposal, electricity, and the street railway and transit systems.
Legislative Audits

Licensing and Consumer Affairs Annual Reports
Early reports are brief and list work done in the area of law enforcement, including weights and measures, new legislation, and special projects, such as searching for a new animal shelter. Later reports provide more complete descriptions of activities in the licensing, animal control, and audit and financial services divisions. One Animal Control Commission report is included, for 1974.

These index cards are arranged in two ways. Cards filed by LID number include enabling ordinance number, street name, consolidated ledger and warrant register volume numbers, date of bond issuance, assessment roll volume and folio, and type of improvement. Cards containing the same information are also filed by street name.
Local Improvement District Indexes
One volume indexes LIDs 1-2178 alphabetically by street name and numerically for numbered streets. It provides the LID number and a description of the improvement. The second volume indexes LIDs 1-2333 and refers to the volume and page number of the City Council minutes in which the respective LID is mentioned. These are LID projects that were completed under the administration of the Engineering Department after the communities were annexed by the City of Seattle.

Major Institutions Zoning Project Records
Correspondence, memoranda, reports, and recommendations regarding the major institutions policy in the Seattle land use code. A major institution is a public or private organization providing educational, religious, medical, or recreational services to a community, and that dominates an area based on the amount of land owned and number of staff, clients, or visitors, and traffic impacts.
Majority Petitions
Petitions for street improvements containing signatures of sixty percent or more of affected property owners approving of work to be done. Includes report of BPW giving estimate of cost, amount of assessment against property, and total aggregate assessed real estate. Also included are drawings, protest petitions, and City Council committee reports.

Water Department Meter Reading Log Books
Meter reading log books arranged by meter number noting name or address, date, and meter reading. Four volumes cover four years: 1889, 1900, 1906 and 1907. The 1889, 1900 and 1906 volumes provide the name or building name and often the address as well, along with the meter number. The 1907 volume gives only the address with the meter number and appears to be for District 2.
